After I had finished it for a second time, I set off to read every other book I could get my hands on. When I finished the novel, I immediately restarted it. As a kid, I didn’t like to read, but The Princess Bride seemed to set something alight. I first read the novel when I was 13 years old. I’m not sure I’m even able to write about it in an objective way because it’s one of those books that is so deeply branded on my brain that I can’t seem to separate it from my own emotional life. In case it’s not already clear: I am sort of obsessed with The Princess Bride. What many fans of the cult hit don’t realize is that the movie is actually an adaptation of a novel published by William Goldman in 1973, and that this novel is pretty much the best book of all time, for ever and ever, amen. Many times, the author is trying too hard to convince the reader to feel a certain way, but K.A. I truly felt Kacey’s pain and heartache I thought her inner dialogue and emotions were appropriately fleshed out. I applaud and appreciate any author who is able to influence the reader’s emotions into empathizing with the narrator. She’s offered a chance to create a new future with the help of her bubbly neighbor and irresistible love interest, but the past still finds its way to haunt her. ![]() Though she tries to leave the past where it belongs, it controls her every emotion and decision. Four years after the tragic death of her loved ones, she moves to Miami with her sister in tow. “See you above water.” Twenty-year old Kacey Cleary is running from her past. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() On the other hand, it was an incredible journey of obedience on the part of Therese of Lisieux to her superiors and to her calling to be a Carmelite. On the one hand, I was reading an ancient travel narrative with surprises and twists and joy and hardship. My favorite section is the pilgrimage to Rome. I thoroughly enjoyed this story of such a devoted young woman to her master Jesus Christ. She became recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church in the early twentieth century. The book is truly a love story between the two.Įventually Therese succumbs to sickness and passes away. ![]() Throughout the book, Therese of Lisieux tells of her devotion and love for Jesus. Therese of Lisieux shares about her trials and faith in the last few chapters of the book. It was finally granted by the church officials and by her own father. She even asked the Pope during a pilgrimage to Rome. Nevertheless, true to her calling she prayed and asked many times if she would be granted special permission to join the convent at an early age. However, she was not old enough because she was only fifteen-years-old. Her two older sisters had joined the Carmel Convent and young Therese desired to go as well. Her mother died early and she was the “little flower” of her father. The young French girl always sensed a purpose in her life from a very young age. In Therese of Lisieux’s autobiography entitled The Story of a Soul she tells of her life story which was very short (1873-1897). ![]() |
